The Business Idol Competition

Business Idol is a competition to recognise and reward businesses with outstanding growth potential. It is not a competition about the best and biggest business but the one with the best capacity and desire to grow and develop.

Part of the process of business growth is identifying and addressing your key success factors and any impediments to growth.

The Prizes

If you win the Business Idol you will be offered the ultimate business boost of up to $400,000 worth of business development services provided by the judges under their Excelerator program.

Excelerator is a multi discplines business development program which accelerates business growth for businesses that do not have the time, focus, resources or skills to realise their opportunities and potential. Excelerator is funded by sharing the financial rewards from success on an agreed 'win-win’ basis. The terms and conditions of the Excelerator program are detailed in this web site under Excelerator.

All finalists will receive a free consultancy session in their area/s of need as indicated by you in the Business Idol competition Entry Form below. The consultancy will be provided by your selected member of the Business Idol judging panel.

You may also qualify to receive a State Government grant worth $11,500 from Business Victoria under the "Grow Your Business" program. The criterion which Business Idol uses to qualify as a potential Business Idol is the same criterion used by Business Victoria to assess a businesses suitability to receive a business assistance development grant.

The Business Idol Criterion

Ideally, a Business Idol entrant will be existing businesses that is at least 2 to 3 years, is registered in Victoria, has a turnover in excess $1 million per annum, possesses a real point of difference with respect to their competitors, is innovation and/or export focused, has a sound management structure in place and is financially viable.

This is the same criterion that Business Victoria uses for businesses to qualify for Business Development grants.

Non qualifying businesses may still enter the Business Idol competition but their acceptance as a finalist will be at the discretion of the judging panel.

To win the Business Idol you should demonstrate that your business has real growth potential and is backed by your passionate self belief and the dedication and desire to succeed.

Competition Entry

To enter a Business Idol competition simply complete the Business Idol Entry Form below before the close of entry.

Enties close 14 days prior to your nominated Business Idol dinner.

You will find answering the 35 Point Business Success Quiz and the questions most enlightening. Your answers will highlight your businesses success potential and some possible impediments to growth. Take this opportunity to identify and address those areas which require attention.

All written answers should be kept as short as possible.

Judging

The Business Idol award is judged by a multi disciplined panel of six business development experts.

The best six Business Idol applicants at each dinnerwill be short listed. The best four entries will be selected by the judges as the Business Idol finalists at each dinner.

The four finalists will be required to provide a short 5 minute presentation about their business at their selected dinner.

Each finalist should indicate why they should be chosen as the Business Idol. Your presentation may be provided in any form you see fit. An overhead projector will be provided.

To assist with your presentation assistance will be provided to prepare a brief "Elevator Pitch" about your business.

The substance and not the form of the presentation will be taken into account in judging the finalists. Each finalist will be judged and briefly critiqued by the Business Idol judging panel after their presentation. This will be done in a light hearten and positive manner.

During the dinner the judges will decide on the Business Idol winner.

The Business Idol awards and trophies will be presented at the conclusion of the dinner.

The trophies are kindly donated by St.George Bank Limited.

Entry Confidentiality

All information provided will be treated strict confidentially and will not be provided to any other party without your expressed permission.

We are well aware of the highly competative nature of the business world and the need for strict adherance to a commercial in confidence policy. The only information presented to the public is that which you choose to present at the Business Idol dinner in support of your entry.
